Aaron Taos is a new artist out of Brooklyn, whose new single “Bangs” was released today. The track pursues a common theme in unrequited love, “about a girl I had a crush on senior year of college but was too scared to talk to,” per Taos. His vocals tout a powerful, husky tone, though memorably dramatic — tonally reminiscent of Eddie Vedder, in a sense. For the track’s overall tone it works well, especially within gliding guitar jangles and rumbling vintage-pop rhythms. There’s a memorable cohesion of classic pop with modern indie-rock charm here, pursuing a topic that’s been pursued many times before, though – like true love – never grows stale.
