Tampa-based Julien the Child crafts an accessible vein of indie electronic-pop, with new track “Self-Aware” reminding aesthetically of Seattle act Aqueduct in the vocal tone’s intensity and general synth tones (Avey Tare also comes to mind during the vocal burst). The first single from his new album Memory Flu, released April 2nd, “Self-Aware” shows Oliver Eldridge (the project’s head) as a very capable and passionate songwriting, deftly mixing amped-up emotion with electro-pop melodic charm, with piano, bouncy percussion, and perky vocals combining for a fun and enthusiastic arsenal.
