Foliage is the solo project of San Bernardino, California’s Manuel Joseph Walker, whose new album Silence is set to drop this year. He dropped his debut LP Truths in 2016, a week before his 17th birthday. Now 19, Walker continues to grow his sound on the shimmering “Dare”, a slice of jangle-pop goodness that tells the story of trying to find an escape, but being held back. The first official single off Silence, “Dare” rides on airy vocals and a bright guitar twang, complemented by a subtle longing synth pad and soaring vocal effects during the chorus. It’s a hypnotic presentation with not much alteration in tone or intensity throughout, combining with warm and hook-y melodies for an enjoyable listen.
