Released this week, “The River & The Breeze” is a memorable, rootsy rocker with soaring vibes reminiscent of The Walkmen. It comes courtesy of Lost Beach, an act from the beaches south of Los Angeles. The second single off their debut EP, Nightbreak, the track begins by riding stampeding percussion and growing guitar work. It’s a conventional way to start, accessible in a way that will perk the ears of most indie-folk fans, though the chorus shows an excellent vocal fervor that shifts into more innovative, rockin’ territory. In the vein of acts like The Walkmen and Deer Tick, there’s a build-up to a supreme vocal performance and musical outpouring that works out wonderfully. With plenty of twang and gusto, “The River & The Breeze” is an excellent showcase of the Cali-based group’s sound.
