Electric Ray and The Shockers – “T.R.O.U.B.L.E.”

/

Austrian rockers Electric Ray and the Shockers show off a nonchalant appeal throughout their varied sound, which touches on heavy rock in addition to psych-rock, punk, and surf. New track “T.R.O.U.B.L.E.” shows this stylistic output off well, from the squealing guitar solo after the first chorus to the ominous, stuttering electronics/vocals that follow after that. What starts as a fairly basic track with a natural, rootsy feel evolves into one with ample dark atmosphere, wisely and subtly constructed with gradual additions and vocal ferocity. When the vocals proclaim that “my name is trouble,” the claim is very convincing. Nick Cave and Bad Seeds comes to mind as a stylistic comparsion, though even then — it’s apparent Electric Ray and the Shockers are crafting their own vein of music entirely. Their new album, California Torpedo, is available for streaming below and shows more eclectic, confident goodness:
