Eric Frisch caught my ear two years ago with the warmly infectious track “Pretty Girls“, which reminded of homages to ’50s/’60s pop in the surf-rock and AM-radio vein. That year’s album release, Goodbye Birdcage, provded ideal for hazy summertime listening. New single “The Light Ahead” rides on a similarly warm jangle, with twangy guitar spurts emerging under a warm gauzy layer of strums alongside Frisch’s summery vocals. The rhythmic acoustical repetition lends a hypnotic quality that works well for this AM-radio type fare, with this effort once again showing Frisch’s effortless-sounding, amiably infectious songwriting demeanor. He calls “The Light Ahead” a “fun summer song”, and it’s easy to agree, even in rainy November.
