“Hallucination Healer” is a spacey and hypnotic slice of dream-pop from Oakland-based group Garlands, which was founded by Lisa Light (The Lovemakers, El Elle) and Mikael Johnston (Mephisto Odyssey, Dresden & Johnston). Their self-titled debut LP drops on October 25th, featuring efforts like this one, where Light’s suave and airy vocals float alongside synth flourishes and shoegaze-y rhythmic movements. The words “hallucination healer” are repeated throughout for apt hypnotic effect, with a haunting bridge around 02:50 that plays very well and a subtle dose of strings toward the end, which adds a majestic effect.
