Los Angeles-based folk singer/songwriter Chords of Truth, AKA Jason Garriotte, pays homage to classic folk and Americana acts like The Band, Johnny Cash, and Bob Dylan with his sound, and while that’s not unique in any way, he does exceedingly well in capturing the vibes and overall sentiments of relevant nostalgia, especially on new track “Freedom”. Simple in its lyrical approach – musings of freedom being undefined, “no one can tell you what it means because it’s a state of mind” – Garriotte’s multi-layered vocal approach meshes well with a chugging bass line and twangy blues-infused guitar line. Its straightforwardness and well-executed theme is an endearing aspect of Chords of Truth, shown brightly on “Freedom”.
