“Glowing Eyes” is the first single and self-titled track off Tropic Harbour’s debut LP, so it’s essentially an introduction — and a memorable one at that. Atmosphere is apparent from the get-go, with a languid and repetitious guitar twang meshing nicely with a serene bass and a flickering synth pad. The subsequent vocals are understated and airy, raising in intensity around the 01:15 hook, when the guitars glide pleasantly in a way reminiscent of jangle-pop – like if Johnny Marr played guitar on a Wild Nothing track. I’m really enjoying Tropic Harbour’s sound, and will keep an ear out for the LP this fall. Already having opened for the likes of Jessy Lanza, Homeshake and Will Butler, Tropic Harbour is on the quick ascent.
