Initially a duo, Chordashian officially became a solo project a few weeks ago, with the project’s new phase kicked off by new track “Lotus”. While showing a rather stylistically different direction from the project’s past output, it succeeds on both the atmospheric and hook-centered fronts. The prickly synth lead and gradually evolving synth pad is reminiscent of Ryan Hemsworth’s production approach, especially as the chorus builds in tempo and intensity before revealing an effective hook that straddles between effervescent lushness and club-set infectiousness. It’s quite easy to get lost in the track’s 4+ minutes, so I’m looking forward to hearing more hypnotic bliss from the new solo effort.
