As any great song is liable to do, “You Dropped Your Keys”, from Brisbane music collective Maison Hall, forces you to listen more than once to grasp everything that’s going on. And between the poetic lyrics, heavy instrumentals and anthemic vocals, there’s plenty to enjoy multiple times. Soaring post-rock guitars and pummeling drums hit like a sucker punch on the chorus that provide a stark juxtaposition to the mellow verses.
The fuzzed-out finale strikes a balance between chaos and beauty that’s hard to come by. Maison Hall sound like a young band with huge vision. The lyrics are intimate, but make no mistake: this band is playing to the nosebleeds.
