On “Magnet”, Boston trio Modesta mesh silky R&B with guitar-rock that never gets too loud. This is a good thing, as there’s nothing overpowering the soulful vocals and falsetto that recall Adam Levine from the early days of Maroon 5 (minus the piano and pop sheen).
The rest of their new album, Three has more muscular moments (“Strut”), but still showcases clean vocals. Other album cut, “Purple of the Sea” is nostalgic, sprucing up a classic rock ballad structure with atmospheric guitars and pulsing drums. Listen to both below.
