Premiere: Hollywood Principle – “Spell”

I hear San Diego-based group Hollywood Principle every day when I load up Rocket League; their excellent tracks “Breathing Underwater” and “Firework” are key cogs in game’s electro-pop-forward soundtrack. Considering I play that game way too much (every day), it’s a testament to the song’s quality that I still look forward to hearing it; pop songs can get grating, but Hollywood Principle have a certain elegance inherent in their songwriting that makes it not so. Last year we showcased tracks like those efforts in addition to “Find Me Out“, and the project’s newest showing is an equally entrancing track by the name of “Spell”, which we’re extremely happy to premiere.

Beginning with fade-in synth warbles and a funky bass line that would make Daft Punk proud, the beat fades out as the flawless vocal introduce themselves, joining with percussion and glitzy synths around the thirty-second mark and proceeding to take off from there. The “fell under my spell” hook is hypnotically beautiful, and although the structure is far from unpredictable the overall polish, flow, and melodic appeal makes this another very strong effort from this continuously rising San Diego-based act.
