Native Color are a new act from Denver with an energetic punk-laden art-rock sound that lends favorable comparisons to Arctic Monkeys and ¡Forward, Russia!. New single “American Wasteland” wastes no time, launching into a bouncy assortment of snarling sporadic guitars and active rhythms, with a serene wave of a chorus offering a lush hook that fits well between the faster-paced yet equally melodic verses. It’s a consistently strong track that shows the group as adept in creating an energetic hook-filled sound that avoids mundane predictability, as evidenced by the discernible tonal shifts between verse and chorus. Their sound combines the youthful rush of punk-rock and the melodic drive of alternative to result in something with plenty of potential.
