Songwriter/rapper Mason and producer FortuneWest have teamed up again for the forthcoming EP Gods We Were, the second EP from the duo (after the release of Free Spirits a year ago). Their new track “Flaws” is a sparkling new effort, covering “the journey of a lost young boy conquering his shortcomings, meant to inspire others to do the same (that selfish attitude can become a habit but habits can be kicked.)” It rides on a hypnotic string-laden beat that’s driven by chopped female vocals, resulting in an exotically infectious sound, with a contagiousness reminiscent of Gorillaz’ “Superfast Jellyfish”. It’s a highly polished and supremely successful effort, one that should carry plenty of momentum into the EP’s release.
