The project of three lifelong friends from Forest Hills, Queens, Broken Guru relishes no-frills production in their enjoyable brand of charismatic garage psych-rock. The first track off their debut album Bent Up Halo, “Plight Of Imemine” shows songwriter Rich Guerzon’s tendency for nostalgic rock goodness; the chorus recalls excitable Brit-pop, while the stop-start is reminiscent of infectious garage-rock with a touch of rockabilly. Although less than two minutes, “Plight Of Imemine” provides an immediate burst of energy that will captivate most listeners into exploring the rest of the album, which can be streamed in full below:
