Blake Hazard’s “Weekends Are For Amateurs” will inject some summertime joy into your day, though it may sound best on Friday afternoon, when you’re anticipating a (hopefully) blue-skied weekend. This twinkling gem from Submarines co-founder Eleanor Blake Hazard (who omits her first name) shows her other band’s knack for jovial melodies and fluttering guitar-key hybrids. “Weekends Are For Amateurs” incorporates a funk-infused shuffle with retro girl-group inspired melodies, joining the sugary-sweet pop of Mates of State with The Submarines’ penchant for polished summertime-friendly pop gems. The track is a highlight off Blake’s upcoming album The Eleanor Islands, out July 9th.
