Verdensrommet translates to “outer space”, making in an apt name for this group out of Bergen, Norway. Their new single “Nytt” meshes a dreamy space-like ambiance with an addictive pop structure, led by a backing array of whirring synth arpeggios that resemble twinkling stars in their lucid projection. These are occasionally halted to allow anthemic percussion and tight guitar licks to enter, reminiscent of suave art-rock groups from all origins. I don’t have the slightest clue as to what they’re saying, but the beauty of “Nytt” speaks volumes. The Guardian wrote that Verdensrommet create “cosmic pop that stations Brian Wilson somewhere on the other side of Jupiter”, and though I hear more Spiritualized than Brian Wilson in their work, there remains a strong connection between starry-eyed space-pop and alt-rock smarts on the beautiful “Nytt”. Check out another great effort, “For De Gangene Jeg Skyter Deg”, below; it transitions from delicate whispers to a surprisingly expansive space-rock palate. The music video for “Nytt” is below as well:
