Sean Bowie is Teams, an oddball electronic project with an adoration for ’80s synth-pop twinkling. On the jumpily nostalgic “Hatsumi”, Bowie recalls the post-punk revivalism work of Twin Shadow; the comparison is evident through Bowie’s deeply aching vocals, robotic snare drums, and swarms of electric guitar bursts. Complemented by a gentle synth glistening, it forms a hypnotic attack that sports both heavily atmospheric synth-pop and enjoyably cheesy guitar solos. Bowie is a sort of enigmatic oddball, as shown in interviews like this, and his personality fits perfectly with his mysteriously invigorating music — much like an Ariel Pink or John Maus. Mexican Summer was wise to scoop this one up.
