As reported last Wednesday, Toro Y Moi’s new album, Anything in Return, will be released on January 22nd. “So Many Details” was revealed to be the release’s first single, but it wasn’t until a day or so later that Bundick made the track available for streaming on Soundcloud. Chirpy synths warble as blasts of synth-bass cut around the edges; the bass plays like an electro version of something Bootsy Collins would play. Superb. Bundick’s voice alternates between playful pop exhilaration, found in the verses, and a wonderfully subdued R&B-inspired hush — the chorus that begins with “you saved my life,” and features a nicely placed “whoo” vocal sample. “So Many Details” is an excellent indicator for one of 2013’s first notable albums. I can’t wait.
