White Denim is giving away two previously unreleased tracks, which were recorded during last year’s Takes Place In Your Workspace EP sessions. “Darlene” is a brisk and breezy rocker with a striking chorus led by haunting vocals, singing “It’s all because of you / I’m running out of breath with close to nothing left” before a chilling bridge that sounds like a somber Jim James. The more subdued “Gas On F” is led by a twangy guitar progression that would make Tom Petty’s backing band smile. It’s complemented by a wry vocal melody that’s halfway between a whisper and a cunning snarl. The faint organ plays an enjoyable role under the guitars, emerging most prominently during the chorus. Two pleasant tracks from sessions that resulted in success.
