MP3: Tame Impala – Apocalypse Dreams
Aussie psych-rockers Tame Impala will release their new album, Lonerism, on October 5th in Australia, the 8th in Europe and UK, and the 9th in the U.S. It will be preceded by lead single “Elephant” this month. The band also revealed both the album’s tracklist (below) and cover art (above). The majority of recording for the album was done in France, and as chief songwriter Kevin Parker noted the album makes an effort of “incorporating an expanded sonic palette, more emotional song writing, and a more pronounced narrative perspective.”
The news comes shortly after the debut of new track “Apocalypse Dreams”, a chugging epic led by soaring vocals, dynamic guitar bursts, and glimpses of moogy organs which give way to supplemental guitar twangs and heavy-hitting blasts alike; the developmental structure provides a slightly conceptual and futuristic feel, even as its influences remind of a remarkable past. As the track progresses, its sonorous tones and stoned guitar stretches are strongly reminiscent of Todd Rundgren’s brilliant 1973 album, A Wizard, a True Star. “Apocalypse Dreams” is a phenomenal track from a group whose debut, Innerspeaker, was striking enough to create lofty expectations. It’s a good sign that “Apocalypse Dreams” is one of the band’s best tracks to date.
