The superb “Trees with Diamond Leaves” shimmers with guitar swipes and reverbed percussion reminiscent of post-punk greats like The Chameleons UK and New Order, though Brave Mariner are more exuberant and upbeat in their approach. “It’s really nice to show you all the places that I go to,” is sung during the chirpy chorus, where woo-ooh’s of an excitable surf-pop caliber overlap with the thickly reverberating guitars. Think Frankie Rose‘s post-punk revivalism crossed with Love Is All‘s knack for powerfully upbeat anthems. This is an excellent introduction.
