Rinse FM premiered a two-minute excerpt from a new Burial track, “Ashtray Wasp”. It is off the upcoming Kindred EP, out soon via Hyperdub. In typical Burial/Hyperdub elusive fashion, the only fact confirmed about the EP is that it will be “vinyl/digital and def less than 25quid.”
“Ashtray Wasp” is on par with Burial’s previous material, featuring the dark crackling and otherworldly samples one would expect from his memorable hybrid of ambient, house, and dubstep. Although this is only a radio rip (and an excerpt of the song at that), “Ashtray Wasp” is strong indication that William Bevan (Burial) will pick up right where he left off. If you haven’t already, check out his 2007 release Untrue. Some already call it a classic of the genre, and rightfully so. Kindred is Burial’s first EP in nearly a year.
