SHORT BITS – #17

Razorlight wanted some exposure for their new album so they went to NME and said the current hottest band (The Arctic Monkeys) sucked and that they were better than them. Instant exposure! Newsflash, Mr. Borrell: while the Arctic Monkeys are not the second coming, your band doesn’t come close to comparing ( source ). Cheap publicity shots are only amusing when Pete Doherty does it, such as squiriting blood on an MTV video camera ( source ). Well, at least it was MTV.

On a personal note, I saw Depeche Mode on Sunday night. It was easily the best show I’ve seen, as Gahan and Gore and company had the crowd in a frenzy. I’m a bit jealous at my dad though, who actually talked a bit to Martin before the show without knowing who he was. It was great though, specifically ‘Never Let Me Down’, as Gahan had the crowd at his grasp despite his supposed laryngitis.

Along with RHCP, Mogwai has some thoughts about their album that leaked quite some time ago ( source ). Also, Snow Patrol will attempt to cover Lennon’s ‘Isolation’ ( source ).

Rappers are getting into a quite a bit of trouble, as Snoop Dogg is banned from the UK ( source ) and Young Jeezy won’t face criminal charges on weapon charges ( source ), and TI is off of probation and will continue touring  ( source ).

Critic darlings Clor have split up, citing musical differences ( source ). Steve Mason of the Beta Band has disappeared, pulling a Richey James. There is a strong possibility of suicide, as his mental health was in speculation ( source ). Graham Coxon addressed Blur’s split-up again, calling it a “boyish” phase that he’s over. People need to accept the fact that like The Smiths, there will be no reunion. ( source )

The Flaming Lips and Outkast are not the only ones making a movie, as Daft Punk is exploring the topic as well ( source ). Danger Doom released a free digital EP ( source ), while Brooklyn Vegan offers pictures of Guns n’ Roses return to NYC ( source ).
