Being new to Mates of State as this was the first album of theirs I listened to, I have to say, I like it better than their early music. For me, I prefer the new guitars and bass. Sure, I love “for the Actor” on Bring it Back. But I find this album great anyway though “Great Dane” and “Lullaby Haze” aren’t very good.

This record is simply dull…nothing new, nothing exciting…just another handful track that I can probably listen to by switching on the radio…way off their standards…a disappointment..

I agree with much of this review, Re-Arranger isn’t nearly as strong as Bring It Back, but for some reason I am still really enjoying listening to it. The better tracks like “Re-Arranger” “Get Better” “Help Help” “My Only Offer” really redeem the album for me. I’d probably give it a 7/10.

That’s a bummer about this record. I really dug the first couple of Mates of State records, but the next couple sort of passed me by – I sort of got what I wanted out of them already, and their work after that didn’t offer much else. My wife really dislikes them, too, so I don’t listen to them much around the apartment. I am interested in hearing a more piano driven Mates of State, though. Thanks for the in depth review!
