Kitchenette, the project of Amsterdam musician Chris O. Kikic, impressed this past August with “Upon the Shoulders“, recalling The War on Drugs with its excellent “woah-oh”-ing hooks, lush organ backing and hypnotic guitars. The project impresses again on new track “Prison Break”, which here recalls Supergrass a bit. Written about the loss of a friend who took his own life, “Prison Break” rides on suave guitar twangs and a nonchalant vocal lead, with an uptick in intensity during the “Breaking out of jail tonight” hook. Similar to “Upon the Shoulders”, “Prison Break” achieves in both its appealing aesthetic and melodic delivery.
