Out of Amsterdam, Kitchenette is a projected centered around Chris O. Kikic, who produces a sound strongly comparable to The War on Drugs and Kurt Vile. New track “Upon the Shoulders”, the first single off Kitchenette’s upcoming EP, is “about the carelessness and the rebellion of this generation that is celebrating freedom and life with the world at their feet but somehow feeling lost at the same time.” A steady percussive backbone is constant as Kikic’s alternating vocals – from understated verses to “woah-oh”-ing hooks – work alongside developing guitars and a lush organ-y backing. Like the best The War on Drugs tracks, “Upon the Shoulders” chugs along, blissfully caught between rock of the past and present.
