Foreign Correspondent is a solo-recording project out of Melbourne, Australia. “Daniel” is an impressive first release, a downtempo psych-pop journey with jagged guitars, playful keys, and a quaintly effective assortment of melodic hooks. As elements like a slight underlying woodwind grow from subtlety to charming presence, the crisp production becomes noticeably impressive, especially as the sly vocals weave around the hook-y chorus, capped by the name “Daniel.” Some spacious, psych-friendly guitar and rhythm work in the final minute concludes this gem nicely, likely being the first of many impressive offerings from Melbourne’s Foreign Correspondent.
