As He Said is a striking Norwegian pop project, whose members met in a music workshop and have since crafted a gorgeous sound consisting of shimmering guitars, gentle synths, and passionate vocals reminiscent of sophisti-pop acts like Prefab Sprout, with a touch of jazzy sophistication interweaving with natural pop smarts. “Get Me Drunk” is a memorable introduction to their sound. A simply engaging intro features endearing vocals and a barren guitar, the two echoing breaking and loneliness. It’s a nicely serene beginning, perked awake around the 50-second mark, where percussion and jazzy guitar stabs complement the rising vocals of Synnøve Gustavsen Ovrid. Around a minute later a beautiful chordal shift finds a soaring vocal melody, shimmering guitars, and a fleeting synth arpeggio combining for hook-laden bliss.
“Get Me Drunk” is fantastic, as is the more rock-forward “Parasite”, below. There’s no doubting that As He Said is bound to rise quickly, in their native Norway and beyond.
