Taking cues from modern indie rock bands like The Neighbourhood and X Ambassadors, SIR have found a way to blend soulful R&B vocals with brooding rock beats, bringing out the best of both genres. “Wine and Regrets”, the title track from their upcoming EP (out March 8), is inherently downbeat and gloomy, but it’s lead singer’s Brandon Dalton’s vocals that elevate this song through the fog of reverberating guitars.
“I’ll break your heart right in front of you,” Dalton sings without a hint of regret switching in and out of his falsetto seamlessly. If “Wine and Regrets” is any indication, the Dallas quintet already sound self-assured before their debut even sees the light of day.
