With bluesy guitars, buzzing synth-like drops, and suavely confident vocals, TH€ ¥€ARS concoct a swanky and dark art-rock sound that’s accessible despite the relatively gritty and darkened approach. Listening to their track “W€ATH€RVAN€”, I can see how the duo of Cecil Campanaro and Brian Stanley are “known for emphasizing visual and lighting components and often prefer to be slightly obscured during their musical performances” – as the stomping percussive and sporadic buzzy bass pushes seem well-fitted for charismatic lighting. “€L€CTRIC INT€RV€NTIØN” is also a winner, with a central chorus that rides on anthemic multi-layered vocal excitement. TH€ ¥€ARS intend for these two tracks to be the beginning of “many upcoming collaborations”, which is certainly a good thing.
