“Dusk and Dawn” is a very pleasant track from Belfast-based four-piece Hurdles, who released the track as a single release ahead of their new EP, out February 1st. Warbly synths, cooing vocals, and gradual percussion fix up a gentle intro, where serene vocals establish their presence over the faint synth-pop flickering. The entry of trickling guitars just before the one-minute mark shifts the stylistic arsenal a bit, evolving into an infectious piece of guitar-pop with guitar tones reminiscent of Vampire Weekend’s Afro-pop fixations. It’s a very strong effort from a promising group, whose EP marks their follow-up to 2013 debut Where to Start. The new EP also includes “France”, which was voted best Northern Ireland-based track of 2014 by Chordblossom.com. Stream that one below as well:
