Flower Drums seems like a suitable name for this dream-pop project out of Perth, Australia. There’s a sort of glittery effervescence that permeates throughout newly released track “Birthday Girl”, and the lush blend of dream-pop and psych-pop lends visions of colorful hallucinogenic lands… hence why Flower Drums is a nice fit. “Birthday Girl” begins fairly conventionally with a serene synth pad and ’80s-inspired drum beat leading over hushed vocals, but it’s the chorus that lifts the track into new heights. “Baby, if you want to, I could come and get you,” the vocals sing over a burst array of twinkling synths and tranquil guitar licks, infusing adult alternative hooks with dream-pop psychedelia. When you hear nothing but percussion, expect the chorus to hit in a few seconds… and to be transported to some land where the sky is green and the grass is blue.

The lead vocalist’s voice sounds so familiar to an artist I’ve heard before, but I can’t place the connection fully! Driving me crazy.
