Ryan Hemsworth has been championed by many music blogs the past several years, and for good reason. The Canadian producer/songwriter has established his reputation through stunning pop remixes and idiosyncratic EPs, where he tackles everything from glistening electro-pop to dark and stirring atmospheric pushes. He usually releases EPs bi-annually. Hemsworth’s most recent, Still Awake, was released earlier this year; you can stream it in full below. One of the release’s highlights, “Perfectly”, entertains quickly with its infectious incorporation of Japanese vocal samples. The subsequent “(?????) (or, I Want To Stare At Your Face Until I Die)” is also engaging, bouncy and playful with its emotive squiggle synths and gentle organs. The name is pretty fun, too. To grasp Hemsworth’s eclectic vision as a producer, it’s also essential to check out “Charly Wingate”, a solid example of his ability to construct climactic build-ups and within a stylistically hybridized atmosphere — consisting of electro-pop, house, and hip-hop. There’s a lot of good stuff to dig into within Ryan Hemsworth’s EPs, and these tracks are a good place to start.
