Earlier this year, Sara Quin (half of Tegan and Sara) wrote a blog post criticizing Odd Future‘s Tyler, the Creator – particularly his use of “vile anti-gay slurs.” Tyler responded in typical Odd Future fashion by saying the openly gay Canadian duo needed “some hard dick.”
This unlikely war of words was dormant for the past six months, but now the other half of Tegan and Sara has something to say. Tegan recently told Spinner.com: “Tyler’s response [to Sara’s blog] was perfect, because it articulated that he doesn’t actually have a statement to make. He can’t really defend how he behaves and what he says. There’s a double standard when it comes to misogyny and sexism and homophobia, and I think it’s shameful that people in our industry put out his music.”
A member of Odd Future, Vyron Turner (‘Left Brain’) was charged with assault earlier this week after allegedly slapping a female photographer (Amy Harris), who claims the assault occurred at the Voodoo Experience festival in New Orleans on 10/30.
Let’s hope this interaction turns into some creative music on both ends, with the witty come-backs one would expect. That would be more fun, and news-worthy, than a couple blog posts.
